The Swedish Blood Donors Association works for voluntary, unpaid and anonymous blood donation in Sweden.
Our purpose
By anonymous blood donation we mean that donor and recipient are anonymous to each other. The donor is never anonymous to the health service: every donation must be identifiable and traceable, both for testing and so that any adverse event in the recipient can be followed up.
- to strengthen Sweden’s defence, civil protection and preparedness with a focus on the supply of human blood in peace, crisis and war,
- to strengthen Sweden’s ability to meet national and international needs for human blood,
- to promote regular, voluntary, unpaid and anonymous blood donation,
- to work with national and international bodies to secure high-quality blood and blood products,
- to ensure that methods guaranteeing the safety of both donor and recipient are used,
- to counteract all forms of marketing and profit relating to blood, based on the principle that the human body is inalienable,
- to support studies, activities and events related to transfusion medicine, and
- to address governments and public opinion in order to promote unpaid voluntary donation and respect for the altruism of donors.
Vision
Blood donation should be the natural way for the entire healthy adult population of Sweden to selflessly and continuously support Swedish healthcare, ready to donate quickly when major acute needs arise – in peace, crisis and war.
Mission
- make it a matter of pride, at any age, to be a blood donor and a life giver,
- inform young people in schools, voluntary defence organisations and the Home Guard,
- inform, recruit and recognise employees in the Armed Forces and in public and private uniformed professions,
- inform employers about facilitating donation as part of their social responsibility,
- make it easier for existing donors to give blood, and
- work towards at least 90 % of Sweden’s population being able to donate up to four times a year within one hour’s travel.
